FEMA Disaster Recovery Assistance

On March 20, 2024 President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared that two major disasters occurred in the State of Rhode Island and ordered Federal assistance to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms and flooding which occurred December 17 to December 19, 2023 and January 9 to January 13, 2024. The President’s action makes Federal funding available to affected individuals in the counties of Kent, Providence, and Washington.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.  Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance at: https://www.disasterassistance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or by using the FEMA App: https://www.ready.gov/fema-app.  Anyone using a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, can give FEMA the number for that service.

For in person assistance, visit the FEMA Mobile Registration and Information Center located at the RI Fire Academy, 251 Main St, Exeter, RI between April 9th through April 11th , 9am to 7pm.  Please use this address and NOT what may come up on Google Maps for the RI Fire Academy.

Representatives from the FEMA-Individual Assistance (FEMA-IA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) programs will be on site to assist with registering for storm related claims and provide information on the SBA's small business loan programs, while answering questions regarding eligibility.
